Alpha Mercy Mission
Alpha Mercy Medical Mission:
“What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds?” ask James in his epistle. “Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, ‘Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, ‘you have faith; I have deeds, and I will show you faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do” (Jas. 2:14-18).
Much of the world has limited or no access to even basic healthcare. Conditions easily treated in developed nations can become debilitating due to inadequate treatment. I know even the U.S. needs medical ministry to inner-city and rural people. The regulations and restrictions which govern the American medical community present unique challenges to those who desire to set up clinics. Whereas when we go to Asia people welcome us with open arms. Why? Medical facilities are stretched beyond capacity. Many living in the villages are overlooked and undertreated. In 2009 November when the Brooklyn Tabernacle Medical Team lead by Pastor Park did our first village camp in Mudgao, Maharashtra. This was their life’s first time experience to see a physician. 80% of them never went to a doctor or clinic before. Yes they do go to the local witch doctor. This region is dominated by harsh and barren landscape so it is no easy to for people to access public transport and travel long hours for medical care into the cities. Many in this area are so isolated that they have little or no access to health care.
This medical mission is a tremendous testimony for Christ, and provides a window of opportunity for the Alpha Ministries’ pastors and believers who minister in these villages. Also our Christian believers have very difficult time because of their faith in many regions. They undergo not only discrimination but in many instances severe persecution. They particularly have difficulty obtaining medical care for themselves and their families. They are often beaten and harassed and their burden is great. They cannot help themselves, but they look to the Lord for His help.
Why go to India with “The Medical Team”?
God’s Word instructs us to, “Bear one another’s burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ…and let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we shall reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith”. (Galatians 6:2,9,10)
If God speaks to you about short-term missions in India, there is a place for you. God can and does use anyone with a heart for the lost. We are praying for more laborers in the work and asking God specifically for additional dentists, dental hygienists, medical doctors, nurses and other assistants.
