An Ongoing Ministry of Hope for the Destitute and Orphaned Children
It seems that it is always the children who suffer the most when a country is undergoing economic, political, or religious upheaval. This is true in Asia. Any third world country, is a land of children, and many of these children are orphaned, abandoned, abused, or neglected. Some parents, for reasons beyond their control, are unable to care for their children. Years ago, God spoke to the caring hearts of the native missionaries who meet these children and see their suffering on a daily basis. God used the leadership of Mrs. Grace Mathews to envision a network of homes in which children with special needs could come and be ministered to. Instead of the typical and institutional orphanage pattern of home, Mother Grace (thus Grace Children’s Homes) shared her vision that actual families, pastors and their wives, would take these children into their homes and raise them as their own for as long as they were needed.
The children who come to live with the pastor and his family are given love and care. Through sponsors who sponsor each of these children every month, the children receive nourishing food and a clean and safe environment in which to live. The children go to school and have access to medical attention. Most of all, they are given the opportunity to know the Christ who is a “Father to the fatherless.”
ALPHA MINISTRIES cares for over 400 children in the 33 Grace Children’s Homes in Asia. These needy boys and girls represent the orphaned, homeless, abandoned, abused and disabled children of Asia. For less than the cost of one soft drink per day, their sponsors are making an “eternal” difference in the lives of these precious children. The mission of the Grace Children’s Homes is to reach thousands of children with the Gospel and to build them up spiritually through faithful and systematic teaching of God's Word, while providing for their basic physical needs. AGCH has spread to every state in North India, and to major provinces in Burma, Nepal, Thailand and Cambodia. We anticipate that number will grow to over 500 with the addition of 10 new homes scheduled to open in 2010.
